Clarinetist

Martijn Susla (Knokke-Heist, 1999) is a clarinetist.
Driven by his interest in new musical ideas and his knack for dynamic collaboration with composers, he primarily focuses on contemporary music. He began his musical education with Stephan Vermeersch, where his curiosity for the 'different' and new repertoire was sparked. After completing a bachelor's degree in Antwerp with Ivo Lybeert and a master's degree in Porto with Nuno Pinto, Martijn completed a specialized master's degree in contemporary music performance in Basel. There, as part of the ensemble Zone Expérimentale, he received coaching from leading figures such as Marcus Weiss, Mike Svoboda, Sarah Maria Sun, and Yaron Deutsch. Martijn has collaborated with composers like Helmut Lachenmann, Stefan Prins, Johannes Kreidler, and Joanna Bailie, and has performed under the direction of Ilan Volkov, Peter Rundel, and Baldur Brönniman. He has attended classes and masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Jaan Bossier (Ensemble Modern), Carl Rosman (Musikfabrik), Yehuda Gilad, António Saiote, Florent Héau and Andrew Marriner. He has appeared on various international stages, performing as part of Zone Expérimentale at the Tzlil Meudcan festival (Tel Aviv) and in the John Knowles Paine Concert Hall (Harvard), and as part of Ictus at festivals including Rainy Days (Luxembourg), Wien Modern, Donaueschingen Musiktage, and La Biennale di Venezia.
